Capitol Hill Day School: Middle School at Farren's Stable
Tucked into the top level of a historic stable building on Capitol Hill, this project transforms a 130-year-old structure into a vibrant and innovative middle school for Capitol Hill Day School. The renovation marked the building’s first use as a school and required BZA approval for a change of use, the addition of a new fire stair within the historic structure, and the conversion of third-floor and loft spaces from a shelled office into an active learning environment. The reconfigured space includes two classrooms, breakout areas, and a central commons that highlights the original timber structure and high ceilings, creating a flexible hub for gathering, collaboration, and project-based learning.
