Carnegie Mellon University: Robotics Innovation Center

Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Innovation Center (RIC) brings together researchers from CMU’s College of Engineering and School of Computer Science, demonstrating the impact of interdisciplinary collaboration on innovation. Located at Hazelwood Green on the site of a former Jones & Laughlin Steel Company mill, just downhill from CMU’s Oakland campus, the RIC provides flexible research spaces including labs, workshops, high-bay areas, and specialized facilities such as a motion capture lab, research water tank, and drone cage. A 1.5-acre outdoor “running room” adjacent to the building extends research activities outdoors, with both indoor and outdoor spaces designed to remain flexible as robotics research evolves.
